Within Austria, participation in education has increased over the past 10 years. However gaps still remain in fulfilling a comprehensive system of lifelong learning. Expenditure on education across all sectors in Austria is outlined and possibilities for developing lifelong learning are explored. It is estimated a further 40 per cent of current expenditure is needed in order to fill the gaps. Current innovations in financing education are analysed. Requirements for improving lifelong learning are listed.
