The wind, wave and tidal (WWT) sector is forecast to grow significantly over the period to 2020. Key to fuelling this growth will be the development of a skilled workforce. Through a process of research and consultation with employers and organisations involved in workforce development, key occupational and skills areas within the sector have been identified. Forecasts have been made of the likely demand within these occupational areas and the current and planned supply of skills relevant to these areas have been examined. The issues for the sector in competing for, and attracting skilled staff have been examined and a number of indicative actions proposed to address these issues delivered through enhanced influence, direct action and partnership.

In late October 2008, we were commissioned to undertake work on developing a carbon baseline and reduction targets for the [higher education] HE sector in England and to advise [Higher Education Funding Council for England] HEFCE on its future strategy. In carrying out this research, SQW Consulting and SQW Energy compiled a range of data, documentation and other relevant literature, consulted with representatives of institutions and key stakeholder organisations, and visited 10 case-study higher education institutions (HEIs). A further stage of the work has involved producing guidance for institutions in developing carbon plans.
