This publication has its origin in a conference on external information needed by TAFE held at the TAFE National Centre for Research and Development in October 1983. At the conference, representatives of TAFE authorities expressed concern that available labour market, social and demographic information was frequently not readily accessible to TAFE personnel. It contains mainly time series data from August 1978 to August 1984. August was chosen as the month least likely to be affected by unusual labour force features (school leavers, etc.), and 1978 was chosen as the appropriate base year.
