The Adult Guidance Pilots (AGPs) were launched in November 2001 to explore the benefits of offering in-depth guidance to complement the basic provision of information and advice already available across the UK. The AGPs involved service delivery to priority groups in order to provide a coherent information, advice and guidance service to disadvantaged people. The AGPs also aimed to explore different models for the delivery of holistic guidance to a range of disadvantaged groups including individuals with disabilities/learning difficulties, people with basic skills needs, refugees and asylum seekers, and offenders/prisoners. This report details an evaluation of AGPs that was designed to consider the range of barriers faced by clients using AGPs, the impact of the services in helping clients to overcome these barriers, and the wider social and economic impact of the services. The evaluation involved a survey of AGP users, an analysis of the management information system completed by pilot staff, and case study work with pilot staff, partners and clients. The evaluation found that over half of AGP clients reported having participated in some form of learning since their involvement in AGP. Those undertaking a course were doing so for job-related reasons or to improve their skills. Improvements have taken place for those with lower qualification levels. Client satisfaction with the service they received from their AGP was high. Show less
