From 1995 onwards a new, national entry level training system, the Australian Vocational Certificate training system (AVCts), will be introduced. AVCts will eventually replace the current mix of certificates, traineeships and apprenticeships with a more structured, cohesive system based on industry competency standards.
The aim of the AVCts Professional Development Program is to ensure a smooth transition to the new training system by providing opportunities for industry trainers, private training providers and TAFE teachers to update their knowledge and skills.
A number of areas have been identified by the State Steering Committee in which professional development should be offered. The areas are: AVCts awareness, cross sectoral work experience, flexible delivery/open learning, RPL, CBT, CBA, integrating core competencies, seeding grants and developing CBT curricula. The following target groups for these professional development programs are: trades and traineeships, AVC pilot projects, labour market programs, and courses which will be converted to CBT.
