Australian vocational education and training statistics: apprentices and trainees 2015: September quarter

Nationally, the number of apprentices and trainees in-training as at 30 September 2015 was 295,300, a decrease of 13.7 per cent from 30 September 2014. This latest release of quarterly data also shows a decline in commencements, and completions and withdrawals, compared with the September 2014 quarter. Data for states and territories is also available.

Highlights in the September quarter 2015, compared with the September quarter 2014, include: commencements decreased by 19.3 per cent, to 36,000; completions decreased by 6.0 per cent, to 27,600; trades completions increased by 18.1 per cent, to 11,800; non-trades completions decreased by 18.4 per cent, to 15,800; cancellations and withdrawals decreased by 10.7 per cent, to 24,000. In the 12 months ending 30 September 2015, compared with the 12 months ending 30 September 2014: commencements decreased by 8.8 per cent, to 175,900; completions decreased by 21.5 per cent, to 127,200; cancellations and withdrawals decreased by 7.1 per cent, to 103,200.
