Tomorrow's world: future of the labour market

The Commission on Education and Employment Opportunities for Young People (Youth Commission) is considering the current education and employment prospects for young people in England, the likely impact of changes in policy and the labour market, and proposing new ideas for ensuring all young people have access to opportunity. It will run for one year and is supported by the Association of Colleges, Capital City Colleges Group, London South Bank University, NOCN and Prospects. Its commissioners are Kate Green, Maggie Galliers, Amy King and Jo Maher.

This report looks into the likely future changes in demographics and labour market opportunities for young people, the impacts of these changes, and how support and advice services can adapt to them. Longer working lives and changes to the economy mean young people need to be flexible and adaptable to succeed in the future labour market. The skills and social security systems must reflect this 'new normal', supporting young people to upskill and retrain throughout their careers.
