This paper reviews the role played by research in vocational education and training (VET) policy making firstly from a historical perspective, and then looks at who the policy makers are, starting with the the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) Board and the ANTA Secretariat, followed by a review of a consultation paper prepared by the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) entitled ‘Developing a national research and evaluation strategy for vocational education and training in Australia 1997-2000’, and finally, comment on the relationship between ANTA and NCVER....
