The National Research and Evaluation Committee (NREC) was formed as a subcommittee of the National Centre for Vocational Education Research (NCVER) Board to ensure a more focused approach to the national research and evaluation strategy. That strategy will govern the research and evaluation activities of the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) and the NCVER’s in-house, national research program.
The NREC requested the NCVER prepare a consultation paper, identifying approaches and options for developing a national strategy. Consultations were undertaken nation-wide and a series of stocktakes of existing research were conducted. The resulting strategy consolidates the advice provided by the consultation process and the stocktakes. A key component of the strategy is assuring that optimum use is made of the research and evaluation outcomes. Research priority areas will be:
economic and social implications of vocational education and training;
employment and the workforce;
pathways from school to work;
outcomes of the vocational education and training sector;
quality of provision of vocational education and training;
future issues affecting the VET sector.
Appended is ‘The national strategy for VET 1998-2003’, which represents agreement among the states, territories, and the federal government on how the key challenges for VET will be addressed. This is an ANTA national project.
