Internet-based cooperation in virtual groups has already increased the opportunities available for vocational education and training (VET) and continuing vocational training. Proceeding from a holistic understanding of education, the author addresses the nature and limits of learning communities in continuing vocational training for teachers. Experiences within the communicative possibilities of the Internet are presented against the backdrop of current teaching and social psychology debates. An analysis of group processes in a project conducted by the author informs the general conclusions drawn for designing online continuing vocational training courses. Show less
