Computer-based training [from a human resources development perspective] is the encounter of a learner with the designer of the learning program using the computer as a proxy. Discussing its advantages and limitations, [the author] provides pragmatic guidelines for the development of computer-based training. The design of computer-based training needs consideration of: (a) computer options; (b) authoring systems; and (c) development team. What the design needs additionally is a variety of analytical, conceptual, linguistic and visual-display knowledge. Because computer-based training incorporates human-computer interface, suitable screen layout, text, graphics, and colour combination can facilitate the interaction between a computer and a learner.
