TAFE student enrolments in 1976 and 1977 were used as the basic source of data for this report. Samples of courses from Stream 2, Stream 3 and from Secretarial Studies were chosen as the basis of the survey which was nationwide. There are comparisons by State with age and sex and by State with age and stream. There were many problems related to differences in classification of courses between States, variations in duration of courses, attendance requirements and administration. No overall trends were apparent as results varied enormously throughout the survey. A small group of reasons for withdrawal did however emerge including demands of work, change in occupation, student didn't work hard enough and sport and social interests. Show less
