In this paper, the authors argue that one goal of education should be to continuously improve the methods by which it educates. They suggest that this is particularly the case when considering the traditional internship and co-op models. California State University-Chico (CSUC) and Fireman's Fund Insurance Company (FFIC) in the United States of America (USA) have collaborated to develop a new on-campus internship model that responds more effectively to student needs by combining the positive characteristics of both the traditional internship and the off-campus co-op models. This paper provides a summary of the first year's experiences with the new type of internship and describes key factors for those considering this cooperative education model. Show less
