On 17 May 2006 the Minister for Employment, Training and Further Education requested the Chief Executive of the Department of Further Education, Employment, Science and Technology (DFEEST) to conduct a review of the Training and Skills Development Act 2003, with the aim of revising the legislation to ensure that there is robust consumer protection for apprentices, trainees and students, and that there are appropriate mechanisms for effectively handling disputes between parties to contracts of training.

The consultation paper includes a background on the Act and guidance under the themes: providing advice to ensure an effective skills base for South Australia; effectively regulating the provision of training in South Australia; effectively administering traineeship and apprenticeship arrangements in South Australia; and handling disputes and resolving grievances.
