From soldier to student II: assessing campus programs for veterans and service members

This report offers an update of the 2009 edition of 'From soldier to student', which provided the first national snapshot of the programs, services and policies that campuses had in place to serve veterans and military personnel. The 2012 revised survey was designed to examine possible changes in institutional policies based on both legislative changes and increased veteran enrollment in higher education since 2009. This report offers an update of the 2009 edition of 'From soldier to student', which provided the first national snapshot of the programs, services and policies that campuses had in place to serve veterans and military personnel. The 2012 revised survey was designed to examine possible changes in institutional policies based on both legislative changes and increased veteran enrollment in higher education since 2009. There is continued hope, in this report, that it will prompt colleges and universities to benchmark their own programs against the national data presented here. Military personnel and veterans are a tremendous asset to higher education, as they have been in the past, but they have needs that are distinct from other students. As campuses continue to welcome these students, it is important for administrators to reassess their programs and services.
