It assesses what has been happening in the area of educational accountability and performance indicators in the last few years and the likely direction in the short to medium term. It describes what performance indicators are and sets them in context, then looks at some of the issues relevant to their development and use. The use of performance indicators by the Commonwealth, States and Territories are discussed, but the main focus is the use of them at the college level, with examples. Issues particularly relevant to college principals are addressed.
