This paper was delivered at a workshop of the Australian Association of TAFE Principals in January 1990. It assesses what has been happening in the area of educational accountability and performance indicators in the last few years and the likely direction in the short to medium term. It describes what performance indicators are and sets them in context, then looks at some of the issues relevant to their development and use.
