The broad aims of this study were to gain an understanding of how school students' views of TAFE have been formed, the kinds of influences which have been involved in the process, the effect these influences may have on subsequent choices about education and training, and the relative importance which educational policy and planning can attach to these factors.

The study also identifies those areas where school students, staff and parents need more information about tertiary education and training options. Ultimately, this will assist with the development of a strategy for improving the quality and targeting of information and thereby improve the basis upon which young people make their career decisions.
