New framework for vocational education in schools: implementation

This document provides the details of a broad strategy to implement the new framework for vocational education and training in schools (VET in schools) that has been developed by the MCEETYA Taskforce on VET in Schools (report indexed at TD/ERD 87.57), consistent with the recommendations of the Ministerial Council on Education, Employment, Training and Youth Affairs (MCEETYA). Implementation will commence in 2001. The strategy is presented as a set of six tables - one for each of the six key elements of the new framework: vocational education and training; enterprise and vocational learning; student support services; community and business partnerships; effective institutional and funding arrangements; monitoring and evaluation. Each table describes the broad outcomes of the new framework that have been agreed to by all government and non-government school systems, the authorities and other key stakeholders. Indicative timelines for achieving these outcomes are included. The document concludes with a commentary on a strategy to improve mechanisms for coordinating policy, program and resource management across the broad area of VET in schools.
