Abstract:

The aim of this research was to investigate the effectiveness of current language, literacy and numeracy programs presently offered in correctional facilities within Victoria for offenders serving short-term sentences. Additionally, the researchers were asked to examine the integration of literacy, language and numeracy teaching with vocational courses and to make recommendations regarding entry-level assessment in the Certificates in General Education for Adults (CGEA), promotion of literacy and language programs and professional development needs for teaching staff.
