Flexible learning in prison education

The UK government aims to improve education and training for offenders as a way of enhancing their employability and reducing re-offending. In addition, prison education contributes to a national target to improve the literacy and numeracy skills of 750,000 adults by 2004. This paper reports on the implementation of a pilot flexible learning initiative designed to enhance access to education in a London prison.
