2013 E-learning Benchmarking Survey

The National VET E-learning Strategy’s 2013 E-learning Benchmarking Survey addressed the uptake, use and impact of e-learning in [vocational education and training] VET. The survey collected responses from 677 registered training organisations (RTOs), reflecting the broad profile of Australian training organisations. The most recent RTO survey was conducted in 2011. In relation to the uptake, use and impact of e-learning, the findings suggest that there has been a modest increase in the uptake of e-learning since the conduct of the 2011 survey. In summary: more VET teachers/trainers are now using technology in their training; the VET teachers/trainers that use particular technologies are increasing their use of those technologies (shifting up from a little use to some or a lot); VET teachers/trainers are using a greater number of different technologies in their training (moving from one or two different technologies to three, four or five); VET teachers/trainers are using e-learning across a wider range of training activities; and VET teachers/trainers are increasing their use of e-learning in those training activities. One area where there was a significant change was in VET teachers’ and trainers’ confidence in using e-learning as part of their teaching/training. In 2013, 65 per cent of teachers/trainers agreed that they were confident in using e-learning compared with 54 per cent in 2010. The report also covers findings related to aspects of supporting the use of e-learning, including: student demand; RTO e-learning strategy; access to e-learning resources; support for teachers and trainers; and barriers to the adoption of e-learning.
