This study evaluated the degree of implementation of school-to-work (STW) activities in K-12 public schools in a rural upstate New York county. Teacher (n=1,257) and administrator (n=22) surveys documented the variety and frequency of STW activities being implemented and the number of students impacted by those activities. Additionally, the authors investigated teachers' knowledge of STW, willingness to learn more about STW, and perceived barriers to STW. School-based activities were implemented most often, while work-based activities were seldom implemented. Few teachers felt knowledgeable of STW components. Lack of training and time were leading barriers to implementing STW. Teacher subject area and grade level affected all areas of STW implementation. Administrators consistently underestimated implementation of STW activities. Show less
