This three part package documents the successful 12 month workplace communication program developed by Red Dome Gold Mine and the Tropical North Queensland Institute of TAFE (TNQIT). The project was funded under the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) Demonstrating Best Practice in VET National Project. The three components of the package are: (i) a ten minute videocassette on which employees and trainers explain how and why the program worked; (ii) a 'how to' booklet in which participants describe the program, why it worked, and how it could have been better; and (iii) a research report which explores the processes that shaped the program; documents the experiences of the participants (the trainer, the managers, the peer tutors and the students), and reports the results that the program produced for the company and for the individual participants. This project emerged from experiences encountered in the development of online learning by the project team during the period 1999-2001 whereby experiments with reusable learning objects (RLOs) or assets contained in Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) toolboxes revealed that there was a great potential to reduce development costs and reduce development time for online (and other electronic) educational products.
