This report aims to contribute to the vocational education and training (VET) policy landscape by investigating the contribution that additional investment in VET can make to the Australian economy. The authors find that there are substantial economic returns available from increasing investment in VET. This is because VET plays an important role in providing skills to the Australian workforce that are in demand by industry. The key benefit takes the form of a boost to the employability of VET students, through higher labour force participation rates, lower unemployment and improved access to full-time jobs. This is true for students who complete part of VET qualifications, such as skill sets, as well as for students who undertake full VET qualifications.
