The Flexible Learning Leaders project has been running since 2000 and is now collaboratively funded by the Australian States and Territories and the Australian National Training Authority (ANTA) as part of the Australian Flexible Learning Framework. Flexible Learning Leaders are professionals in vocational education and training (VET). Leaders selected for this scheme receive professional development funding for a year to support their project and to expand their knowledge and skills in flexible learning and leadership. In 2002, 39 Flexible Learning Leaders, selected from around Australia, received funding to undertake intensive professional development and leadership training. The professional development goal of this project was to provide high quality support to workplace based trainees undertaking training and assessment under the Apprenticeship and Traineeship Training Program (ATTP). In this report, the author shares his experiences as a Flexible Learning Leader and the outcomes of his involvement in the project.
