In 2012 the Dusseldorp Skills Forum (DSF) published 'Learning Choices: a map for the future', which provided an overview of the field of alternative education provision in Australia, i.e. the multitude of inclusive and flexible learning programs and initiatives that the DSF refers to as Learning Choices. Learning Choices programs offer vital pathways to enable young people to remain in school or to return to complete their education. The 2012 report provided an overview of national and state policies that support or otherwise impact upon the provision of Learning Choices programs. Since the report was published, government policy impacting on alternative learning has substantially changed throughout Australia's states and territories. This provided the impetus for this paper which updates the policy section of the original report, outlining federal, state and territory policy changes relevant to alternative education.
