A questionnaire survey of people who enquired about a TAFE course but did not subsequently enrol was undertaken in June 1995. This report contains the results of this survey, which had a response rate of 34 per cent. Additionally, it includes some comparison data on enrolled students as at December 1994.
The three major reasons why respondents decided not to enrol in TAFE were: the desired course was being held at an inconvenient time (21 per cent); work commitments precluded undertaking the desired course (21 per cent); and the cost of the course stopped respondents from enrolling (18 per cent).
Other reasons for non-enrolment were: 14 per cent decided to accept job offers, while 10 per cent were unsuccessful in gaining a place in the subject of their choice (unmet demand). Results of a subsequent, telephone survey comprises TD/TAS 49.03. Show less
