Organisations want managers with leadership qualities. Companies budget millions of dollars to improve leadership skills within organisations. Restructuring efforts place a premium on those individuals who demonstrate effective leadership skills. More than one failure of corporate restructuring can be blamed on 'poor leadership' - a factor that may illustrate the need for a different approach to leadership. A cadre of individuals influence productivity. Those individuals are informal leaders who gain their influence from experience, tenure and charisma. Tapping this influence will allow a company to gain operational efficiencies. This article defines who these individuals are and describes how to improve individual leadership that supports company goals.
