This handbook introduces a full-day training program which aims to 'create an awareness and understanding of the diversity of Aboriginal people and their culture' (p.14). Apparently developed for workers in the health and community services industry, it accompanies a participant workbook, and contains: - brief notes on working with people with limited language, literacy and numeracy skills - brief notes on roles and responsibilities of workplace trainers, assessors and mentors - a list of recommended resources - notes on assessment approaches - notes on key concepts to be covered (ownership, cultural understanding, teacher sensitivities) - overhead transparencies (approx. 20) - sample activity sheets - supplementary information including frequently asked questions, references and an annotated list of 14 resources. The handbook would benefit from some explanatory notes or an overview of the training program.
