Using the SAFER risk management process to make farms safer for everyone: support materials for the Managing Farm Safety program

These training materials were developed to support farmers who are experiencing language or literacy difficulties to participate in and successfully complete the Managing Farm Safety (FMS) program. They are not intended to replace the training materials developed for the program, but rather to support them. They provide a plain English approach to the key concepts of the FMS program, namely: - the SAFER risk management process - hazard identification and use of checklists - risk assessment exercises - risk control measures - developing a farm safety action plan - evaluation of control methods - maintaining farm health and safety records and documentation. The materials are intended to be used by a trainer and provide some general information about the issues that face learners with language and literacy difficulties, and some strategies to make training sessions accessible to all participants. Activities suggested include reading and writing exercises.
