Australian local government training: a resource for workplace communication in training packages

This resource was developed as a part of the non-endorsed components of the Local Government Training Package. It contains assessment advice, guidelines and support materials to assist assessor/trainers in dealing with workers within the Local Government sector who, because of difficulties with language, literacy and numeracy skills may experience disadvantages in print or electronic assessment procedures. Particular concern is directed towards older workers who may require greater flexibility when being assessed. The resource is also meant to assist workers by simplifying the language or offering everyday language alternatives to current terminology/jargon, especially with regard to the relevant Competency Standards. Sections cover: - the process of assessment - conducting assessment - issues surrounding assessment - language, literacy and numeracy content within Competency Standards. Three case studies are included to illustrate the guidelines given, and Competency Standards with performance criteria are rewritten in plain English. The resource also includes a useful template for assessors for checklisting actions for planning and administering assessments.
