In regional and remote Australia the key for success or survival will be the ability of its enterprises and individuals to diversify. This diversification will be in markets and customers, products and services, people and skills and approaches to management. Regional economies will be influenced by international and national factors. In the future 'enterprise educators' will be in communities encouraging personal and community enterprise. If in the new age we are going to be responsible for our well being, and not reliant on governments we need to be preparing for it. Regional economies will operate differently in the future, understanding the changes and difference will give us the power to be prepared and look forward to the future. This paper examines the characteristics of enterprise in 2020 and identifies the human and policy implications of these changes.
