This is the summary of a paper which examines the magnitude of the digital divide in global terms and provides an outline of the debate about the digital divide in Australia. After some analysis of the causes of the digital divide in Australia the author highlights some of the consequences of the technochasm and the barriers to closing the gap. The paper concludes with some suggestions of what needs to be done to address the digital divide issue in Australia.
