The Victorian Government is committed to making a difference in the outcomes for the State Training System and in particular for ensuring that training meets regional needs and that quality training is delivered. Underpinning government policy is the recognition that training and employment outcomes are inextricably linked and a measure not only of training performance but a key contributor to the economic wellbeing of the Victorian economy. This edition of the 'Planning guide for providers of training and further education in Victoria 2001' is designed to assist providers to better understand the changed policy and planning environment and its implications for training delivery. The key organisational context for the provision of the majority of the information within the Planning Guide is regional, utilising the Australian Bureau of Statistics Labour Force Regions. Industry training needs and priorities have been identified at this regional level by industry training advisory bodies. Selected historical employment and training data analysis is provided. This will assist providers to critically explore regional employment and training linkages in order to better position themselves for future delivery. To complement this, employment projections at an industry and regional level are included. The previous edition of this planning guide may be found at TD/VIC 58.01.
