Case studies in workplace assessment systems

Staff in two case study sites participated in a post-training review of their respective workplace assessment systems. The assessment criteria used at each site were based on either industry competency standards or learning outcomes. Following the conduct of an accredited training course, the assessment process at each site was documented and analysed against the principles of validity, reliability, feasibility, and fairness. Three groups of staff from each site were surveyed to determine their perceptions and experiences of the assessment system. Staff responses are described in relation to content and construct validity, assessment credibility, reliability, preference for integrated assessment approaches, and contextualisation.
