This proposal paper has been developed with input from Victorian TAFE college staff, Department of Finance, Telecom and industry, to provide for formal discussion with Victorian vocational education and training providers regarding the development of a Wide Area Network (WAN). A wide area network will increase effectiveness of business activity by providing: (1) statistics collection/reporting facility; (2) remote login to access applications such as APPSYS, MIS, EIS, Library OPAC etc.; (3) online register of accredited courses; (4) data transfer between state training system providers; (5) communication with VTAC (Victorian Tertiary Admissions Centre) for access to student data; (6) electronic mail facility; and (7) access to other networks (AARNET/Internet).
