NCGE in support of guidance: policy and practice 1995-2005

The National Centre for Guidance in Education (NCGE) was launched in June 1995. Its brief was to act as a support agency to the Department of Education, to guidance practitioners in all education settings, and to educational institutions in the development of guidance services. This report outlines the work of the Centre during its first decade of operation. NCGE has played a role in policy development, the development of school guidance planning, and work in areas such as the Adult Educational Guidance Initiative, the training of Youthreach staff in non-formal guidance skills, and the analysis of guidance in the further education, primary and third level sectors. NCGE also has an important European role and it functions as part of the Euroguidance Network. In this role, NCGE representatives have contributed to the mobility of European learners, workers and ideas.
