This chapter aims to synthesise themes related to career guidance at a broader level, both socially and internationally. Two broad factors that influence career guidance perspectives around the world are considered: (1) individual and vocational factors; and (2) guidance delivery factors. In the first part of the chapter, the authors look at the background of career guidance as a basis for understanding the perspectives that have already influenced it. Selected social and international perspectives with relevance for career guidance are then considered as part of the issues facing individuals and practitioners.
