Action theory: an integrative paradigm for research and evaluation in career

This chapter presents a model in which the evaluation of educational and vocational guidance can be understood and practised. The authors begin with an overview of action theory as an explanation of career and illustrate this by applying it to the issue of what constitutes a life-enhancing career. Its application to research and evaluation in career is explored in terms of its benefits for researchers, program evaluators and counsellors. The procedures for its use in research and evaluation are outlined along with its use in counselling, one of the key tools of educational and vocational guidance.
