This chapter examines the need for career practitioners and researchers to develop an awareness of the ethical issues affecting the career assessment process. The authors provide an overview of these issues and examine current practices around the world in competent career assessment, national, regional and international codes of practice, ethical issues associated with computer and internet-based assessment, and assessment with specific populations. They conclude that career testing and assessment are important for gathering information about the client, counselling and interventions but that there is the potential for misuse. Ethical codes are thus essential as is the ethical awareness and knowledge of practitioners.
