Interest assessment in an international context

This chapter investigates the issues associated with construct equivalence across cultures in general and then specifically in relation to interest assessment. Most of the interest measures, models and constructs have been developed and researched in the US. The Personal Globe Inventory demonstrates some promise of cultural equivalence but more work is need to determine the validity of this measure and model. Interest measures, even if structurally equivalent across cultures, may not be valid in application. It is concluded that validity evaluations of both the measures and their applications are required to determine cross cultural equivalence.
