Guidance for girls and women

This chapter investigates the position of women in labour markets around the world and the implications for career guidance practice. The author begins by examining the nature of the barriers faced by girls and women as they move from education, into and through the labour market. This is followed by a review of selected career guidance and counselling approaches that have been specifically developed, or adapted, for this particular group. Research evidence from a current longitudinal study tracking the career progression of a group of women over a five year period is used to explore the application of these approaches to female participants.
