In the past five years we have experienced two major changes to the Australian and world economies. The extent and influence of these changes surprised governments, industry and economic analysts across the spectrum. The boom caused labour and skill shortages, infrastructure bottlenecks, increased costs and a host of related economic factors. More recently we are experiencing a global downturn in economic activity due to the financial crisis and a greater than 50 per cent fall in the share market. The Board of SkillsDMC considers the current environment as an opportunity to revitalise the workforce development process and replenish the depleted skills pool industry will require in the inevitable upsurge in the global economy.
