This information brief discusses career planning and vocational assessment for transition-age youth. Young people benefit from a well-defined assessment process that assists them in making informed choices and achieving desired post-school employment outcomes. In the past, many young people with disabilities have not had the same opportunities as their non-disabled peers in terms of exposure to career preparation options. This brief looks at vocational programs for youth in transition that focus on the skills, knowledge, and abilities that young people with disabilities can contribute to the workplace by accurately identifying a young person's assets and sharing this information with the young person and those who work with him or her.
