Australia is presently implementing a new wave of reform to the vocational education and training (VET) system to deal with the pressures of globalisation and a current labour skills shortage. These have been categorised into two types: those around governance and accountability and those around the national skills framework. On top of these are other system reforms to increase the stock of skills and to promote labour mobility. This paper describes the major reforms and the stakeholders involved in their implementation. It also makes some observations on the relevance of these reforms for SEAMEO [South East Asian Ministers of Education Organisation] member countries.
