'Turning it around': performance recovery in the UK further education sector

This paper examines the organisational processes and practices of renewal as they occur within further education colleges engaged in turnaround and recovery. The insights presented here around the impact on performance recovery of leadership change, college purpose, leadership role, and strategic orientation are developed out of the initial analysis of data from five colleges which have either been through a turnaround or are currently engaged in a turnaround. In addition observations from other senior leaders in the sector with experience of turnaround and recovery are used to explore the observations made.
