This research is an investigation into the under-representation of black and minority ethnic (BME) governors in further education colleges [in the UK]. This research is guided by the following questions: What are the impediments to the appointment and retention of BME governors? What are the drivers for colleges in recruiting members from under-represented groups? What might constitute 'best practice' in recruiting and retaining BME governors?
