This presentation begins with a brief overview of the more than 15 years since the 'training reform agenda' was launched. He notes that there is still considerable difficulty in Australia's secondary school system, dealing with all the possible work futures that both society and individual workers require. He suggests that educational divisions are simplistic and they do not get close to representing the real needs of the world of work, while educational institutions become what they can get money for - from governments, from their clients, the young people and their families, and their potential employers. The author suggests that in Australia we are still struggling to position our education systems to meet our technological needs, and struggling even more now these needs have expanded and diversified. Tomorrow's workforce will need to be literate and numerate. We will need tomorrow's workforce to be not only literate and numerate, but technologically knowledgeable as well.
