Australian Qualifications Framework implementation handbook

This handbook provides a detailed guide for the implementation of the Australian Qualifications Framework. It should be read in conjunction with documents issued by accrediting bodies. The handbook consists of six sections: An overview of the Australian Qualifications Framework [which provides] a brief introduction of the Australian Qualifications Framework with a description of its key features; Guidelines [which provides] information required to determine the level of a qualification; Transition arrangements [which provides] advice on how to convert an existing qualification to a qualification under the Australian Qualifications Framework, together with advice as to the requirements which must be met; Articulation arrangements [which contains] a set of principles to assist the establishment of connections between the qualifications; Issuing a qualification [which provides] advice regarding who issues a qualification, how and when; [and] Monitoring the Framework [which contains] details regarding the Australian Qualifications Framework Advisory Board which is being established to monitor implementation of the Framework.

Australian Qualifications Framework implementation handbook

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) was introduced nationally at the beginning of 1995 and provides a comprehensive, nationally consistent and flexible framework for all qualifications in postcompulsory education and training. This third edition of the AQF implementation handbook provides updated information for 2002 and includes new national policy guidelines on cross sector linkages to replace the original section on articulation arrangement. It includes a new definition of a ‘statement of attainment’ and reflects the introduction of the Australian Quality Training Framework (AQTF) in the vocational sector. The handbook provides a detailed guide for the implementation of the AQF and is designed to complement documents issued by accrediting bodies. It consists of six sections: an overview of the AQF; qualification guidelines; national guidelines on cross-sectoral qualification linkages; issuing a qualification; monitoring the framework.

The Australian Qualifications Framework (AQF) was introduced nationally at the beginning of 1995 and provides a comprehensive, nationally consistent and flexible framework for all 15 qualifications in postcompulsory education and training. This fourth edition of the AQF Implementation Handbook (2007) incorporates: revised AQF guidelines for the Senior Secondary Certificate of Education (2004); revised AQF guidelines for the Graduate Certificate and the Graduate Diploma (2005); AQF guidelines for three new qualifications: the Associate Degree (2004), the Vocational Graduate Certificate and the Vocational Graduate Diploma (2005); expanded national guidelines on cross-sector linkages to include the schools sector (2004); national principles and operational guidelines for recognition of prior learning (RPL) (2004); a new definition of a Statement of Attainment and protocols for certification (2007); and updated references to the AQTF 2007.
