A new national agenda for education and training in Australia: overview report for the Department of the Premier and Cabinet, Victoria

A broad range of measures, including international benchmarks for comparison with other countries, were considered in this evaluation of Australia's education and training system. The measures included: outcomes from the vocational education and training and higher education sectors in terms of completion rates, satisfaction levels and graduate destinations, including employment outcomes; educational attainment levels for different age groups; and literacy and numeracy levels in the general population. The research raises some fundamental questions for Australia's economic and social future and determines that Australia needs to re-commit to a new and broader national agenda for education and training as the basis of the continued transformation of Australia into a skills and knowledge based economy and a cohesive and democratic society.
